Great Men are almost always Bad Men

Today we hear the shocking news that the FCC Chairman has abused power, and the Governor of Illinois is apparently corrupt.  Shocking?  Not really.

It is inevitable that when too much power is given to people, many will use it for their own interests.  Whether that interest is to acquire more power, to dictate morality to others, to acquire wealth, or whatever, the results are all too often bad.

As Lord Acton stated:

Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.
